Energy cost savings for low income households

Energy Savings

Are you ready to cut your utility costs? Do you want to be cooler in the summer and warm in the winter? Arapahoe County Weatherization can help you do both with free weatherization services.

Through an energy audit of your home, Arapahoe County Weatherization identifies common energy hogs, such as air infiltrations caused by the lack of insulation in walls, attics and crawl spaces as well as gaps and cracks around plumbing penetrations, ductwork joints and doors and windows. Once these are identified, weatherization technicians will address them by adding insulation and conducting effective sealing of air leaks, allowing your home to retain cooler air in the summer as well as the heat generated from the furnace, which keeps you warm in the winter.

Additionally, weatherization will make sure that your furnace and water heater are operating and drafting properly, repair or replace furnaces that pose a health and safety risk to you and your family and will replace energy inefficient appliances, such as refrigerators and furnaces with energy efficient units. All of the energy efficiency upgrades provided to your home will be inspected by a certified quality control inspector to ensure adherence with Standard Work Specifications from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Arapahoe County Weatherization provides services to both Arapahoe and Adams county residents who meet the following criteria:

  • Owner-occupied households and renter households, with landlord approval; homes, townhomes, and manufactured (mobile) homes.
  • Household incomes at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines (see chart 1 below);
  • Family gross income at of below 80 percent of Adjusted Median Income (see chart 2  below) – to take advantage of services at this higher income level, household may be required to be an Xcel Energy customer.
