LITTLETON, CO – The Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners today announced the formation of an advisory task force that will help guide the Board as it makes decisions regarding future county needs.
The Long Range Planning Committee will review the current and projected fiscal situation of the county along with transportation issues and future infrastructure requirements at the Arapahoe County Justice Center. The justice center, located at Broncos Parkway and South Potomac Street, includes the Arapahoe County jail and courthouse.
The Board of County Commissioners appointed 25 residents, business leaders and nonprofit representatives to the Committee during yesterday’s meeting (list of appointees attached). The task force will advise commissioners on potential next steps.
Over the last several years, commissioners and county staff have been compiling detailed information on the condition of the existing County jail and courthouse, which serve all cities, towns and unincorporated areas of the County. The review culminated this year with the development of a Justice Center Facility Master Plan. The Board also has been studying road and bridge needs and evaluating strategies to engage needed partners at the local, state and federal level.
The new advisory task force will review options for addressing long-range service and financial needs as well as evaluating how to meet the critical public safety and transportation needs posed by aging facilities.
The first advisory committee meeting will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on May 14, 2019, at CenterPoint Plaza, 14980 E. Alameda Dr. in Aurora. All county residents are welcome to attend to hear the information presented and the committee discussion.
The Board of County Commissioners also will continue to engage the community in exploring the various options through townhalls, telephone town halls and other meetings as well as digital outreach. The Commission also welcomes comments and questions from the public. Comments can be sent to TOGETHER@ARAPAHOEGOV.COM.
