LITTLETON, CO --- Mark your calendar for four days of family fun and entertainment, including 4-H animal shows and activities at the 2017 Arapahoe County Fair, July 27 - 30, just east of E-470 on Quincy Avenue in Aurora.

Arapahoe County 4-H has long been the heart of the Arapahoe County Fair. 4-H is a youth development program offered through Colorado State University Extension that brings together members, ages 5-18, to learn life skills, leadership skills, build friendships and have fun. Members spend months preparing projects and animals for the Fair, where they contend for prize ribbons, cash premiums and bragging rights.

On Saturday, July 29, general admission includes the 4-H Youth Livestock Auction at 6:30 p.m. in the Livestock Pavilion. The Youth Livestock Auction is a long-standing tradition where citizens and businesses are invited to attend and bid on locally-raised lambs, hogs, goats, poultry, rabbits and beef in support of local 4-H youth. Proceeds go to the individual 4-H exhibitors to invest in their future education and to help offset the cost of raising the animal.

In addition to the Youth Livestock Auction, discover the 4-H Home Economic and General Projects from Woodworking and Baking to Sewing, Robotics, Photography and Cake Decorating throughout the Fair displayed in the main hall. Animals will be on display in the Livestock Pavilion and Barn throughout the Fair with Barn Tours offered by 4-H members Friday and Saturday. New livestock projects this year include llamas and alpacas.

There are also pre-fair events including the Cat Show and Horse Show July 22, the Dog Show July 23 and Fashion Revue July 26. Pre-fair events are free and open to the public.

This year, there are more than 300 active 4-H members in Arapahoe County, many of whom are competing at the Fair. Enrollment for the 2017/2018 4-H program begins in October. Parents who are interested in finding out more about 4-H can
call the CSU-Extension 4-H office at 303-730-1920 or speak to a 4-H member or staff at the Fair.

The Arapahoe County Fair will be held July 27- 30, with 4-H activities throughout. Pre-sale daily admission tickets are available online through 4 p.m., July 27 for $10 plus a convenience fee. The pre-sale price is $5 cheaper than at the gate. Admission includes unlimited carnival rides, fireworks, kids’ corral with family activities, concerts on the main stage, two rodeos, the high-flying dock dogs, 4-H exhibits and shows, open class contests including daily pie eating contests, tractor pulls and more.
