LITTLETON, CO --- Are you passionate about making positive, lasting change? Perhaps you want to know more about policy and government? Or, maybe you want to know how to develop family and leadership skills? You are invited to apply for the 2018 class of Family Leadership Training Institute hosted by Arapahoe County CSU Extension in partnership with the City of Sheridan.
Family Leadership Training Institute is a free, 20-week course designed to strengthen family involvement and leadership skills. The program was initially developed based on the idea that strong families build strong communities. FLTI teaches participants how government works and civic engagement skills, community problem-solving, how to work with the media, public speaking, developing leadership skills and more.
Participants also create their own civic project based on their individual passion and what they want to change in their community. Past projects have included a community garden, a reading program and a support group for families of children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Classes begin in January and will be held primarily Tuesday nights, 5 – 9 p.m. at the Sheridan Recreation Center, 3325 Oxford Ave., Sheridan, 80236. Child care and dinner will be provided at each class. Program facilitators are bilingual and materials will be provided in English and Spanish. The program culminates with a graduation in June.
Applications are available at www.FLTIofColorado.ColoState.edu through Dec. 15. Participants must be at least 17 years of age. Volunteers and sponsors also are needed to provide meals, child care and donations.
