Distinguished Citizen Award
In 2010, the Board of County Commissioners created the Arapahoe County Distinguished Citizen Award to honors individuals who
have gone above and beyond and have provided clear vision, firm convictions and a steady hand in forging the future.
The award recognizes extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated visionary leadership and service excellence. Their voluntary
work has created a positive, lasting change on Arapahoe County.
In addition, the County will be creating a Trail of Honor at the Arapahoe County Community Park. A plaque explaining the award
will be permanently placed there along with each winner’s name.
The honor will serve as a reminder to our residents about the impact one, single person can have when they decide to partner
with their local government.
First Winner – “2010 Visionary” Mike Rosser
Our first recipient is Mike Rosser. Mike envisioned a future that would bring a legacy of change to Arapahoe County and then
did what many only talk about doing… he took action.
As a leader for the “Yes on 1A” initiative, Mike served as one of our pioneers in establishing a dedicated revenue source that created the newest and most dynamic Open Space program in Colorado.
Mike’s six years of dedication, vision and service to the citizens of Arapahoe County as a member of the Open Space and Trails
Advisory Board, including serving as Board Chair in 2008 and 2009, has helped the County to achieve many and varied accomplishments
in the realm of open space conservation and outdoor recreation.
From the humble first land acquisition of 2.5 acres to expand the Cheyenne/Arapaho Park to the acquisition of more than 15,000
acres under conservation protection for future generations, he has helped to pass on a legacy of great worth.
