Forensic Pathologist

Kelly C. Lear-Kaul, M.D. is a Forensic Pathologist for the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office, one of only approximately 450 forensic pathologists in the United States. She has been with Arapahoe County since 2004.  She is a Colorado native, having been born and raised in Colorado Springs. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Cornell College, and subsequently received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency and Surgical Pathology Fellowship at the University of Colorado Hospital, and her Forensic Pathology Fellowship at the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.

Dr. Lear-Kaul is the Vice-President of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists, and is appointed by the Governor to the Colorado state Child Fatality Prevention Review Team.  She sits on the national Forensic Pathology Committee of the College of American Pathologists, and is a key member of the North Central Region Fatality Management Committee.  She is also a member of the National Association of Medical Examiners and the Colorado Coroners Association.  She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, teaching medical students and pathology residents from UCHSC, and pediatric pathology fellows from The Children’s Hospital.
