4-H Youth Program Volunteer
Adult volunteers play an important role in the 4-H program by helping youth, ages 5 to 18, succeed and learn important life
skills.
A 4-H volunteer can get involved year-round as a club or project leader, commit just a few days each year to plan and coordinate
4-H events, work as a contest judge or superintendent, assist with fundraisers, or help with 4-H activities at the Arapahoe
County Fair.
- As a 4-H Organizational (Club), Project or Resource Leader, you will help youth to learn a new skill in one or more project
area. 4-H has 270 project areas to choose from, such as gardening, arts, sewing, photography, cooking, cake decorating, model
rocketry, livestock or horse showing. Leaders are responsible for organizing and directing club meetings, teaching a skill,
and supporting 4-H youth as they prepare to exhibit their project work at county contests or the Fair. Leaders also teach
valuable life skills such as leadership, ethics, decision-making, record keeping, responsibility and community service. Enrollment
for new leaders begins every year in November.
- As a 4-H Contest Judge, you will become educated on how to judge the 4-H members’ project work. Contests include cake decorating,
speech and demonstrations, consumer choices, creative cooks and fashion revue, as well as general, home economic, livestock
and horse shows at the County Fair.
- As a 4-H Fair Volunteer, you can support the 4-H exhibitors, leaders and staff in a wide variety of ways.
