Volunteer Connections is proud to recognize the citizens who donate their time and talents to the County each year.  We honor our volunteers at an annual volunteer appreciation event each spring. This family-friendly celebration usually has a colorful theme and offers fun games and activities, door prizes, goodie bags, a formal awards presentation and unique entertainment.

We are very grateful to the local organizations who make this volunteer event possible each year through sponsorships and in-kind donations.

The Awards

Arapahoe County gives its own special awards to individuals and groups who are nominated and selected by an awards committee for their exemplary volunteer contributions. Those awards include: First in Service Volunteer of the Year, Rising Star Award, Outstanding County Fair Volunteer and others.

We also recognize those volunteers who receive the Presidential Service Award, a national recognition issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to adults who serve 100 or more hours and youth who serve 50 or more hours in a year with a certifying organization.

Each year, we are proud to present the Arapahoe County Board of County Commissioners with a symbolic check that represents the budget relief to the County offered by volunteer service hours. In 2010, volunteers contributed a record-high 33,034 service hours, which translates to $709,249.43 in budget relief (as determined by local average wage statistics). See our chart below for a look at the service hours donated since 2007.

If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer or in contributing as a sponsor to our annual volunteer appreciation event, please contact Val Purser at 303-738-7938 or vpurser@co.arapahoe.co.us.
