Our adoption program recruits adoptive homes for children who have suffered a loss or have been removed from harmful environments.
We work to find the best possible solution for each child to improve his or her chances of future success, including being
adopted into a new family.
Visit our Adoptable Children page for Arapahoe County children waiting for their forever families.
For more information, or to adopt a child, call us at 303-636-1KID.
What is adoption? Children become adoptable (legally free) if and when their parents’ legal rights are terminated by the District Court. Parental
rights are lost as a result of child abuse, neglect, abandonment or exploitation. If the current foster parents are interested
in adopting the legally-freed child, they will receive serious consideration.
Otherwise, our adoption team will work to find an appropriate adoptive home, and provide resources and supportive services
to the new family during an adoptive placement. We also file all the legal documents necessary with the courts on behalf of
the adoptive parents to finalize a child’s adoption.
How do I get started? Here’s an outline of the step-by-step process to adoption in Arapahoe County:
- Learn about the children currently waiting to be adopted. For more information about a particular child, call the child's listed caseworker.
- Check the web page periodically for any new additions, or consider participating in our Foster Care program. A foster family
cares for a child temporarily, with the possibility of adopting if the child becomes legally freed.
- Register for our free information night and/or training. Call 303-636-1KID to attend.
-
Attend the 8-week training series and complete an application packet.
-
Complete a home study to help us learn more about your personal and family background.
