
General Assistance helps Arapahoe County residents with emergency situations.
General Assistance is available to families or individuals who are not currently on public assistance. The program varies with each situation, may provide the following types of emergency assistance:
- Rent (not eligible if receiving subsidized housing assistance
- Prescriptions
- Emergency help with utility bills
- Burial costs
- Transportation – bus tokens or pass
- Heating bills (not available during LEAP season if payment received for current year).
General Assistance also can be used for other emergencies, depending on the situation and availability of funding. It is dependent upon funding and is not always available. An individual may only receive General Assistance once in a twelve (12) month period.
Eligibility
To be eligible for General Assistance, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a resident of Arapahoe County
- Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent legal U.S. resident who is:
- Disabled, or
- Over the age of 60 years, or
- Has minor children living with you.
- Complete an application for financial assistance
- Meet the income requirements of 133-percent of federal poverty level
- Have not received GA within the past 12 months.
- Not currently be receiving benefits from a cash assistance program
How Do I Apply For Benefits?
To apply for General Assistance, please secure, complete and submit an application at one of our County office locations.
An eligibility specialist will interview you to determine if you qualify and if funds are available. Prospective applicants will also be given information about resources for various services available in the area.
