Reporting possible abuse or neglect
If abuse or neglect is suspected, please call Arapahoe County Human Services at 303-636-1750.

Every report received is reviewed by a supervisor and an appropriate level of response is determined.  Upon receipt of a child abuse/neglect report, a Crisis Intake caseworker will conduct an initial assessment and determine the level of risk to the child or children.

High Risk
- Factors present indicate the child's safety may be at risk and there is a potential for further harm.

Moderate Risk
- Factors present indicate the child's safety is not at inordinate risk, and the potential for further harm is minima.

Low Risk
- Factors present indicate that the child's safety is not of imminent concern and the potential for further harm is slight.

If risk assessment information cannot be obtained from the reporting party, ACDHS will make an immediate response to determine the child's level of safety.
Crisis Intake workers evaluate the family's situation, and proceed in one of the following ways:
  • close the case due to unfounded abuse/neglect; or if unable to locate the family;
  • open the case for 30 days, providing the family with needed community resources; or
  • open the case, then work with the family's situation until the family is as stable as possible and needed resources are in effect.

Services could include in-home as well as out of home placement.
