In 2001, nine separate public and private entities joined together in an attempt to preserve Colorado history, while at the
same time, provide an open space area for people to enjoy.
Arapahoe County, along with Douglas County, the Town of Parker, Great Outdoors Colorado, the Gates Family Foundation, the
Colorado State Historical Fund, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, the City of Aurora and the Trust for Public Land,
collaborated to save the 144-year-old property located at 8181 South Parker Road.
Currently the County is creating an interpretive plan, which details how the house and park will be restored and the educational
elements that will take place. It is also working to complete an external renovation of the site that will provide parking
and a trail that connects to Parker's Norton Farms Park and Trailhead and the Cherry Creek Trail. The new trail and parking
is estimated to be complete in 2012.
