Each year from April to October, Arapahoe County conducts a variety of road maintenance projects in an effort to maintain
and enhance the quality of our roads. Road work can consist of replacing deteriorated curbs, gutters and sidewalks, crack
sealing and or street resurfacing or rehabilitation.
Arapahoe County Public Works uses a pavement management system to assist in creating road maintenance projects, with the overall
goal of matching the right-treatment to the right-road at the right-time. And since it’s less expensive over the long run,
Public Works is committed to Pavement Preservation practices that help “keep-the-good-roads-good”.
This approach results in a balance of Rehabilitation with the lighter touch of Preservation projects designed to extend the service life of streets while still in good condition.
Arapahoe County works hard to minimize any inconvenience during construction. If you have questions, a special event, or
other special needs that may require coordination during construction please give us a call at one of the contact numbers
shown below. Arapahoe County serves the unincorporated areas of the County. The Roadway Maintenance Projects listed below
are planned for this area only. Please contact your city directly if you live in an incorporated area such as Littleton, Centennial,
or Aurora.
We look forward to enhancing the quality of roads in your neighborhood.
| 2012 Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Repair |
Concrete repairs generally mean replacing worn, settled or damaged sidewalks and curb and gutter and installing or updating
of curb ramps.
In most instances, replacements are scheduled prior to other street maintenance work. Localized repairs may also be scheduled
in other high priority locations.
Keeping curb, gutters and sidewalks in good condition helps preserve streets from water damage and keep pedestrian walkways
safe and in compliance with provisions of The American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This project is anticipated to be completed during the June – September timeframe.

| 2012 Fog Seal Rejuvenator |
Fog Seal Rejuvenators have been used as a Preservation treatment for many years and have been thoroughly tested. Fog seals are among the first-line preservation treatments.
Rejuvenators can turn back time by restoring the chemical balance of asphalt, while sealing pavements against the intrusion
of air and water. Penetrating rejuvenators work beneath the pavement surface to soften pavements and combat top-down aging,
hardening and cracking. And since rejuvenators penetrate the surface of the asphalt, there is nothing to wear off over time.
Fog seal rejuvenators provide years of extended service life and can be one of the most cost-effective treatments available.
Fog seal is generally applied to newer streets and is sanded after allowing to penetrate the street surface. Thorough sweeping
follows the next day.
This project is planned for completion in June 2012.

| 2012 Slurry Seal |
Slurry Seal, widely used as a Preservation treatment, is generally applied to streets in relatively good condition to seal pavements against the harmful affects of
environmental weathering.
It is generally applied to streets in good condition as a preventative maintenance treatment. And it may be applied to a newer
street that has worn beyond fog seal.
Slurry seal is a relatively thin surface coat with an aggregate wearing course designed to seal streets against weathering.
It protects streets similar to how heavy paint coatings or a stucco finish protects a house. The finished treatment results
in a black, new appearance for the street and provides years of extended service life. Slurry seal can be a very cost effective
treatment.
This project was substantially completed in May 2012.

2012 Roadway Rehabilitation
|
Overlay is a Rehabilitation project consisting of mill profiling near curb and gutter followed by placement of a new asphalt layer. It is generally more
cost effective than reconstruction.
Reconstruction is a heavy Rehabilitation project consisting of complete pavement removal and replacement.
Asphalt paving is generally conducted between May and October. This Project is anticipated to be primarily completed during
the July – August timeframe.
