New permit applications are accepted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except holidays). All new permit applications must
be submitted in person and signed in the presence of the Sheriff or designee. During this appointment, we will process your
application and take your photograph and fingerprints. Once approved, you will be contacted to return and pick up your permit
in person.
The following documents must be included in order for your RENEWAL application to be processed:
1. Application which includes:
- Residency history for past 10 years (including county)
- 14 history questions and training source
- A Supplement Form if answered “yes” to question #14
- Copy will be made of Permanent Residency Card
- Waiver – (signed in the presence of the Sheriff or designee)
2. A valid Colorado driver’s license, Colorado ID or a Military ID and Duty Orders
3. Proof of Residency (one of the following documents are acceptable)
- A current lease or rental agreement
- A current utility bill listing the applicant’s name and address (such as electric, gas, water, trash or land-line telephone)
- If the applicant resides at the address listed on the application, but the property is owned by another party, i.e. spouse,
parent, or friend, a notarized statement from the property owner verifying the applicant’s residency at the property is acceptable.
The following documents are NOTacceptable as proof of residency:
- Cell phone, Internet, or cable bill
- Colorado Driver's License/ID
4. Proof of a completed handgun safety or training course to include:
- Evidence of experience with a firearm through participation in organized shooting competitions or current military service.
- Evidence that, at the time the application is submitted, the applicant is a certified firearms instructor
- Proof of honorable discharge from a branch of the United States Armed Forces within the three years preceding submittal of
the application
- Proof of honorable discharge from a branch of the United States Armed Forces that reflects pistol qualifications obtained
within the ten years preceding submittal of the application
- A certificate of retirement from a Colorado Law Enforcement Agency that reflects pistol qualifications obtained within ten
years preceding submittal of the application
- A training certificate from a handgun training class obtained within the ten years preceding submittal of the application. The
applicant shall submit the original training certificate or a photocopy thereof that includes the original signature of the
class instructor
5. Two non-refundable processing fees:
- $52.50 cashier’s check or money order to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
- $100 cash, personal check, cashier’s check, or money order to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO)
