Renewal applications are accepted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except holidays). All Renewal applications will only
be accepted within 120 days prior to the expiration of your permit. Permits that are six months or more past their expiration
date are deemed permanently expired and will not be renewed. The permit holder must apply for a NEW permit. All applications
must be submitted in person. At the time of processing, a new photo will be taken and fees will be collected. Included in
the renewal application, is a signed notarized ACSO Concealed Carry Handgun Permit (CHP) Renewal Affidavit. The affidavit will allow us to issue a renewed permit at the time of the application. A notary is available to the public
at the ACSO for a fee of $2.
The following documents must be included in order for your RENEWAL application to be processed:
1. Application which includes:
- Residency history for past 10 years (including county)
- 14 history questions and training source
- A Supplement Form if answered “yes” to question #14
- Copy will be made of Permanent Residency Card
- Notarized Renewal Affidavit
2. A valid Colorado driver’s license, Colorado ID or a Military ID and Duty Orders
3. Proof of Residency (one of the following documents are acceptable)
- A current lease or rental agreement
- A current utility bill listing the applicant’s name and address (such as electric, gas, water, trash or land-line telephone)
- If the applicant resides at the address listed on the application, but the property is owned by another party, i.e. spouse,
parent, or friend, a notarized statement from the property owner verifying the applicant’s residency at the property is acceptable.
The following documents are NOTacceptable as proof of residency
- Cell phone, Internet, or cable bill
- Colorado Driver's License/ID
4. Proof of a completed handgun safety or training class must be on file. If you are a renewal applicant and your previous
proof of training was honorable discharge paperwork from a branch of The United States Armed Forces, it must specifically
reflect pistol qualification obtained within the ten (10) years preceding submittal of the original application. If it does
not, you will be required to provide us with proof of pistol training or qualification dated within ten years of your original
application.
5. Two non-refundable processing fees:
- $13 cashier’s check or money order to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
- $50 cash, personal check, cashier’s check, or money order to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO)
Please note -- (there is a late fee for expired permits and full fee to CBI for fingerprints) – In this situation the fees are:
- $65 - If the current CHP expired within the past six months. You may not renew a permit that has been expired for six months
or more. You must complete a new application.
- $52.50 - cashier’s check or money order to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) - If you were not fingerprinted for
your original permit, you will be fingerprinted at the time of your renewal application and they will be submitted to the
CBI for processing.
