Property Crime Investigation – Burglary and Identity Theft Over the past several months we have seen numerous burglaries in several apartment complexes, in which the suspect(s) is targeting
the victim’s wallets and purses. A suspect enters the victim’s home while he/she is in the process of moving in or out. After
obtaining the victim’s purse or wallet the suspect(s) immediately goes to nearby stores and purchases several hundred dollars
worth of goods using the stolen credit cards. In most of the cases, the victim(s) has no idea anything has been stolen until
he/she receives a call from the credit card company.
As a result of the investigation, we are aware of an estimated 39 cases in the Arapahoe County area involving this form of
burglary and identity theft. It appears that several different people are involved in the crime. Investigations has been working
closely with Special Investigations, the Patrol Impact Team and surrounding agencies to identify the suspect(s) and prevent
further victims.
Robberies The Arapahoe County Investigation Services section is currently investigating two street robberies that occurred in the area
of East Floyd Avenue and South Irving Street. In both robberies, the victims were walking in the area when they were approached
by two male subjects. After a brief confrontation with the suspects, the victims were forced to give up their personal belongings.
The suspects fled the scene in a waiting vehicle, driven by a third suspect.
In both cases, the victims in both cases were able to provide descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle. The Arapahoe County
Crime Analyst began sharing information from the robberies with surrounding metro agencies. As a result of the dissemination
of a crime bulletin, a vehicle matching the description was located by a Denver Police Officer. The vehicle was impounded
and searched. During a search of the vehicle and of a residence, items belonging to one of the victims were recovered. Additional
information was developed as a result of the stop.
This investigation is still on-going. Investigators are following up on additional leads with the hope of identifying the
suspects involved.
