Theft from Motor Vehicles
On October 6, patrol deputies were dispatched to the area of 3600 S. Jebel Circle regarding car prowlers. A responding deputy located a suspicious slow moving car with only its parking lights on. The vehicle was occupied by three individuals. Inside the vehicle, in plain view, were numerous items of electronics.

Investigators began interviewing the adult suspect and two juveniles at the station on days that followed and discovered that they had been involved in nine car break-ins in the immediate area. Approximately 35 stolen items were recovered and three cases were cleared.

Car Thefts/Car Jacking
On October 28, Steven Stewart began randomly car jacking vehicles at gunpoint in the cities of Centennial, Littleton, Lakewood and Jefferson County. Investigators, Lab Technicians and Warrants personnel assisted Patrol in a general perimeter in an attempt to apprehend Stewart in case he were to travel back into the City of Centennial. Stewart was located by Lakewood Police while traveling east bound on Highway 285. Lakewood deployed stop sticks and Stewart crashed into a fence. He then fled on foot and entered an apartment building, where he took several residents hostage.

ACSO Investigators were provided to Lakewood Police and were utilized to conduct initial hostage negotiations. The suspect eventually released his hostages and, sometime later, turned his weapon on himself.

Investigators spent much of October and early November developing cases and tying them to the criminal acts of Steven Stewart. At the time of this writing, 14 cases have been identified as cases in which he was either directly or indirectly involved.

Identity Theft
On November 7, deputies were dispatched to the area of the 3000 block E. Fair Place regarding a possible burglary in progress. Upon entry, deputies located three individuals along with numerous fictitious checks, printers used for the purpose of forging documents and blank checks in the name of unknown victims. A warrant search of the home was conducted by Investigators and a large amount of evidence was collected with the assistance of evidence and lab technicians. The investigation is ongoing.
