Patrol Monthly Update March 2012
Sheriff’s Office Opens New Substation, Storage Facility, and Drive Track
On February 28, 2012, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office opened a new substation and storage garage, and will soon begin
utilizing a driving training track, all adjacent to the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds property.
The substation replaces a single small office fourteen deputies have worked out of at a local church for many years. Two
sergeants will be assigned to it, along with the deputies who work in nearby precincts. The substation has a reception area,
three offices, a briefing room, conference room, work area, locker rooms, break room, and a training/multi-purpose room.
One feature that will help deputies work more efficiently is an evidence area. Previously, deputies working in the eastern
precincts had to travel to Sheriff’s Office Headquarters to submit evidence. At the new substation, they will now be able
to submit evidence to secure lockers thereby increasing the amount of time they spend in their assigned areas.
The storage garage replaces a hangar the Sheriff’s Office has leased at Centennial Airport for many years, thus saving a significant
amount of money. It will store the large vehicles and equipment the Sheriff’s Office uses, i.e. the Mobile Command Post,
the Hazardous Materials Truck, the Emergency Management Truck, and the Snow Cat.
The driving training track will be used by the Sheriff’s Office for academy driving training and yearly refresher training.
The track and training/multi-purpose room will be made available to other agencies as well for a nominal fee. The money received
will be put in a fund to primarily be used for maintenance and repairs.
The Sheriff’s Office is pleased and grateful to have this new facility available, and its use will certainly improve the quality
of service provided to the citizens of Arapahoe County.
