Communication Services

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center provides dispatch services for unincorporated metro and rural areas of Arapahoe County as well as the cities and towns of: Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, Sheridan, Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Foxfield, Byers, Deertrail, Cherry Creek Park Rangers, South Suburban Park Rangers and specialized task force teams.  The center also dispatches fire and Emergency Medical Services for two rural volunteer fire departments.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center is the primary answering point for 9-1-1 emergency telephone calls. In 2009, The Communications Center processed over 315,000 telephone calls.  Of these, 63,000 were 911 calls, and 8,000 were misdials and 911 hang up calls.    Cell phone availability has increased call load as the Communication Center often experiences multiple phone calls for a single event such as an accident or fire.

The Communications Center demonstrates its commitment to excellence by voluntarily participating in the CALEA Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program. The CALEA Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program provides communications centers with a process to systemically review and internally assess their operations and procedures.CALEA Accreditation requires the communications center to develop a comprehensive well thought out uniform set of written directives. This is one of the most successful methods for reaching administrative and operational goals, while also providing direction to personnel.

The communications center operates 24/7, and is staffed by 1 manager, 6 shift supervisors and 23 communications technicians.
