The Crime Lab is located in a "state of the art" Forensic Crime Laboratory at our headquarters in Centennial. The Crime Lab
continues to broaden its capabilities with new technology and equipment, including Shoewear Linking and Identification Programs,
Digital Film Scanning and Video Enhancing.
The new equipment provides the technology needed to obtain the essential evidence for a successful criminal investigation.
Extensive work is also conducted in the photography lab for developing and processing thousands of rolls of film each year
for crime scene evidence and training purposes. We recently acquired a new film processor that provides photographs from virtually
every type of media, keeping the crime lab astride of the "digital explosion."
In addition, the use of the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System has been instrumental in matching numerous latent
prints recovered from crime scenes to the alleged offenders. Fingerprint processing, evaluations and comparisons are done
for our agency, as well as outside agencies that need expert assistance.
Our qualified staff process hundreds of crime scenes and thousands of items of evidence each year to ensure the highest quality
of service. It is not unusual for the Crime Lab to receive 10,000 work requests from outside agencies per year.
