Snow and Ice Removal
Due to its unique and varied geography, Arapahoe County can receive 20 to more than 100 inches of snow during the snow season
of September through April. Amounts of snowfall can vary from a light dusting to several feet, depending on the severity of
the storm. Cold temperatures after a storm may impede melting, while warm weather may prove to be a real asset.
Snow conditions within the County will vary widely depending upon location. With more than 500 miles of roads in the unincorporated
area of the County, the responsibility for keeping the transportation network open requires large expenditures for manpower,
equipment and supplies.
The County may use extra manpower and equipment of private, local contractors to plow streets and move snow. By doing this,
the County doesn't have to commit taxpayer funds to acquire and maintain limited-use equipment.
